Valentino Lazaro's agent has reassured RB Leipzig that his client choosing Newcastle United is not anything against the Bundesliga club, but rather a vote for the Premier League.

If the deal goes through he will be Newcastle's second signing of the January transfer window after midfielder Nabil Bentaleb also joined the club on loan earlier this week.

The Austria global have joined the Magpies on loan from Inter Milan for the rest of the season.

Lazaro will now look to force his way into the Newcastle team and is a right-sided flyer with blistering pace.

The Austria global, who can also play as a winger, joined Inter from Hertha Berlin at the start of the season but struggled to establish himself at San Siro, starting only three Serie A matches.

Lazaro arrived at the San Siro in the summer from Hertha Berlin but has made just 11 appearances for Antonio Conte's side this season.

"It was in the talks for quite a long time now and to be honest it was not an easy decision for me".

"I've only heard great things about the club", Lazaro said. I've had good talks with the coach so I feel very happy to be here now.

Newcastle have already faced League One opponents in the FA Cup this season, when Rochdale were their victims in the third round, but they needed a replay to overcome the minnows, and nobody involved with the Tyneside outfit will be looking for a repeat of that with all the injuries they now have.
