Apple might not launch the iPhone 12 in September due to coronavirus

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic and all the subsequent supply constraint challenges, Apple has been forced to discuss whether it should delay launching it by a few months, according to a report from Nikkei.

Don't pin your hopes on getting an iPhone 12 this fall.

As per report, the new iPhone will support 5G networks, and it has raised the pressure at the iPhone maker for the device to be a hit.

Apple is monitoring the outbreaks in the United States and Europe and evaluating whether a delay may be necessary.

Wistron's new plant in India was poised to assemble printed circuit boards (PCBs) for iPhones in April, a first for the Taiwanese contract manufacturer that will save Apple having to pay import taxes on the vital Indian smartphone component.

According to Nikkei Asian Review, "sources familiar with the matter" have said that the iPhone 12 range could be delayed by months and may even slip into 2021.

However, some suppliers have been asked to defer their mass production schedules for approximately two to three months.

Usually, suppliers are told to start shipping in big volumes in June but apparently right now they have been told to start shipping by the end of August.

Then again, we had also recently heard of a possible delay to October or beyond.

Apple's main assembly partner, Foxconn, has been manufacturing iPhone X models in the county since previous year. "We haven't given up yet", said one of the sources who spoke with Nikkei.

Apple is reportedly considering delaying the launch of the next-generation iPhone range, thought to be called the iPhone 12. All models are expected to have 5G capabilities and A14 chips, and high-end models are expected to be equipped with new 3D camera systems like the LiDAR scanner on the new iPad Pro models.
