Cuomo: Senate's $2 trillion coronavirus bill would be 'terrible' for NY

New York City has 17,000 cases and more than 3,000 new cases in the past 24 hours.

"The arrows are headed in the right direction, and that is always better than the arrows headed in the wrong direction", Cuomo said at a press conference Wednesday. I said to them, 'this doesn't do it.' You know, I understand the Senate theory and the Republican theory.

"Many additional ventilators also delivered", he said. And what they're now seeing is that the rate of cases, the rate of new infections, is doubling about every three days.

Cuomo warned that if these measures to reduce the density did not work on a voluntary basis, then the city would make the guidelines mandatory.

"We're pretty sure we set a record", said Pence, adding that he thinks it took "62 days to be in the phase one clinical trial".

"What we're studying is what is the high point of that line, what is the apex of that line?"

"He had 16,000 ventilators that he could have bought and he didn't buy them", Trump said.

Williams was asked about reports of some long-term care homes not enforcing social distancing between long-term care residents. They're especially important now, given that COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that can seriously affect the lungs.

But U.S. President Donald Trump - himself a native New Yorker - said that by April 12 he would like to ease off on measures meant to control the virus, in a bid to limit the economic damage from social distancing, and he charged that it was up to Mr. Cuomo to get the equipment he needs. At Elmhurst Hospital Centre in New York's Queens borough, scores of people, most wearing surgical masks, lined up on Wednesday to be tested at a tent outside. We haven't flattened the curve and the curve is actually increasing, he said. "We're gonna lose some people".

Andrew Cuomo confirmed over 5,000 new cases of novel coronavirus, bringing the statewide total to 30,811 confirmed cases in New York State. Of the at least 674 deaths in the USA, 131 occurred in New York City. New York, the state with by far the most infections and deaths, was given such status last weekend as well as California and Washington state.

The announcement comes one day after Trump changed his tone on coronavirus response and cautioned the "cure would be worse than the disease" in reference to the social distancing and shelter-in-place mandates in several states that have shuttered non-essential businesses and removed millions of American children from school. "New York is going first". The hospital system has been given a mandate to increase capacity by at least 50%, but even if all hospitals doubled their capacity, the state would still be 34,000 beds short to accommodate projected numbers once the outbreak reaches its peak in the coming weeks.

Hospitals are increasingly overwhelmed by the quick rise in patients with severe cases, many of which require a ventilator to survive. It will also need many more intensive care unit spots: NY now has around 3,000, but the new projections say that at the height of COVID-19's outbreak in NY, the state could need space for 40,000 people to be in intensive care at the same time.

The Jacob Javits Center - a landmark convention center in midtown Manhattan - is being repurposed as a temporary hospital for Covid-19, along with four other sites selected by the army corps of engineers.

"We're not slowing it, and it is accelerating on its own", Cuomo said. "Everyone is anxious about their jobs", said Evans, 32, whose restaurant Blue Oak BBQ is a few steps from the renowned Bourbon Street.

"I think there are certain people that would like it not to open so quickly", he responded. "The longer we postpone it, the longer we have to do it, the more cases and the more deaths we have to see".
