The developer acknowledges that "many fans will be disappointed by this delay", and says that "we're grateful to every Doom fan for your dedication and support".

As such, Doom Eternal is now scheduled to arrive on March 20, 2020. These include a planned free update, called "Invasion Mode", that will allow players to "enter another player's game as a playable demon".

A sequel to the 2016 first-person shooter reboot of the Doom series, Doom Eternal shifts the action from Earth to Mars, just like Doom II: Hell on Earth. That is, of course, assuming that Bethesda and id Software stick to this new release date and don't hit any new roadblocks on the path to DOOM Eternal's March launch.

Doom Eternal for Switch will release after other platforms. It will release on March 20 as well for all platforms, including Nintendo Switch. Now, Doom 64 will not only be coming to PS4, Xbox and PC, but it will also be offered as a pre-order bonus for Doom Eternal.

In a spot of good news, however, the company also announced that the rerelease of classic Nintendo 64 series entry DOOM 64 will no longer be restricted to Switch.
