The Joaquin Phoenix-starring film about Batman's greatest nemesis has now grossed a total of $953 million worldwide. That it happens to be an R-rated psychological drama is a bonus of sorts, as it's the third-cheapest $900 million grosser of all time after Bohemian Rhapsody($905 million on a $52 million budget) and The Lion King($968 million on a $55 million budget in 1994).

Not only this, but the movie has broken a number of other records including crossing Deadpool's collection - $783 million - to emerge as the top-grossing R-rated title of all time.

Surpassing its predecessor "The Mask", the Todd Phillips directed film was confirmed to have grossed more than a $US 304.2 million in North America, and a whopping $US 957 million worldwide - and the film hasn't even finished its theatrical run.

Joaquin Phoenix's Joker movie, however, has left several viewers with many burning questions about the characters and sub-plots.

The cyber net is stuffed with plenty of theories about Sophie's fate in the Joker movie.
