Twins' Mitch Garver, Nelson Cruz win Silver Slugger awards

Minnesota Twins catcher Mitch Garver, Cleveland Indians first baseman Carlos Santana, Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, New York Yankees second baseman D.J. LeMahieu, Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies and Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger joined Bregman and Acuna first-time Silver Slugger Award winners.

Having won his first Silver Slugger Award following the 2018 season, Story becomes the 10th player in Rockies history to win multiple Silver Sluggers.

They were the first Twins teammates to win Silver Sluggers since Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau in 2008.

The Silver Slugger Award recognizes the season's best offensive producers at each position - selected in a vote by MLB coaches and managers in their respective leagues.

The most productive Major League Baseball hitters for 2019 were recognized on Thursday with the announcement of the annual Silver Slugger awards.

Rendon, 29, earned his second career Silver Slugger Award after leading all National League third basemen in batting average (.319), on-base percentage (.412), slugging percentage (.598), OPS (1.010), RBI (126), multi-hit games (55), extra-base hits (81) and runs scored (117).

Garver had 32 home runs and 67 RBI (30 homers and 65 RBI as a catcher). The criteria include traditional statistics such as batting average, base percentage and slugging percentage, and "general impressions of a player's overall offensive value", as Louisville Slugger put it in his press release.
