Apple might launch Mini-LED iPad Pro and MacBook Pro next year

Kuo says that Apple is planning on releasing four to six different products with mini-LED displays over the next two to three years.

Mini-LED screens aren't likely to be cheap, so that's probably why they're expected to pop up in Apple's most expensive tech.

By Q3 2020, an upgraded iPad Pro could arrive with an A14X processor, followed by a 16-inch MacBook Pro in Q4.

LED wafer and chip maker Epistar will compete for orders for mini LED chips from Apple through Te Opto, its joint venture with Japan-based Toyoda Gosei, the sources noted.

Apple is refreshing its iPad and Macbook Pro 16-inch with new Mini-LED display technology, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. So we'd hazard a guess that Sammy's display arm could be the one that'll provide Apple with such screens, as it already cranks out OLED displays for the iPhone 11 Pro.

Interestingly, today's research note, Kuo basically confirmed that Apple will "expedite" its adopting of mini-LED technology.

Mini-LEDs are much smaller than ordinary LEDs and create a brighter picture with more saturation and richer black levels.

Apple supposedly prefers Mini-LED display panels over OLED - especially for its larger devices - because they offer advanced features such as local dimming, wide colour gamut, and high contrast and dynamic range, MacRumors reported on Monday.

Because Mini-LEDs are so much smaller than normal LEDs they are hard to manufacture and place precisely into screens, which means they are much more expensive than traditional LED displays.

It is not known if an iPhone with a mini-LED screen is in the works, the latest iPhone 11 released in September featured the OLED screen.

What's more, AirPods are now a popular product category for the company, allowing Apple to add a new revenue stream to its bow and reduce its reliance on smartphone sales.
