Six of Usman Khan terror gang also free to walk streets

The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria terror group said the London Bridge attack was carried out by one of its fighters, the group's Amaq news agency reported on Saturday.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan told Monday's vigil that, in the face of tragedy, people should "take hope from the heroism of ordinary Londoners and emergency services who ran toward danger, risking their lives to help people they didn't even know".

"The best way to defeat this hatred is not by turning on one another but by focusing on the values that bind us", he told the vigil.

In an interview with the BBC, Fishmongers' Hall chief executive Toby Williamson, praised the actions of his staff, later adding that Lukasz was stabbed five times during the incident, but continued to help nonetheless.

He was jailed in 2012 alongside Usman Khan, who stabbed to death two people and injured three in London on Friday before being shot dead by police officers. Both had worked at the prison-based education project Learning Together, and they had gathered to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the program at Fishmongers' Hall when the attack began.

The ministry of justice stated that they will be reviewing the license conditions of every convicted terrorist released from prison.

But the family of Merritt asked that his death not be used to justify introducing "even more draconian sentences" on offenders in a heartfelt tribute released on Sunday.

"Jack lived his principles; he believed in redemption and rehabilitation, not revenge, and he always took the side of the underdog". His relatives said he "would not want this bad, isolated incident to be used as a pretext by the government for introducing even more draconian sentences on prisoners, or for detaining people in prison for longer than necessary".

In a statement, the Jones family said: "Saskia was a amusing, kind, positive influence at the centre of many people's lives".

In a statement, they said: "Saskia had a great passion for providing invaluable support to victims of criminal injustice, which led her to the point of recently applying for the police graduate recruitment program, wishing to specialise in victim support".

The attacker, Usman Khan, was convicted on terrorism-related charges in 2012, and had been released from prison a year ago.

Despite being deemed as a public threat, London Bridge knifeman Usman Khan was freed ahead of his scheduled release under strict conditions, and required to wear a Global Positioning System tag.
