Small Business Saturday makes a big impact

This "business holiday" encourages consumers to support neighborhood stores, small businesses, and restaurants in their community. "It triples any of the other days of the holiday season".

Small Business Saturday was created by American Express in 2010 to show appreciation for and to support small local businesses.

Saturday, November 29, is a day to support local entrepreneurs by shopping locally, keeping shoppers money in the area during Small Business Saturday.

People who shop and dine with small businesses can help keep Main Streets across the country alive, said Bennie Parr Jr., owner of Bennie's Pizza Pub at 124 E. Main downtown Belleville.

"I think part of it is the money stays here, it doesn't go to across seas, it doesn't go to another state".

"Everything is about giving back and to supporting our local community", said Thomas.

It's a day meant to help and thank locally-owned businesses.

"Absolutely, there's more excitement downtown, more people are coming to spend their time and their money down here", Gilbert said. "It's really cool to see everything that's kind of been changing around town and it's been busier for sure".

"A lot of the small businesses, offer a lot of things that maybe you cannot find in some of the bigger stores", said Sands. We have several businesses in downtown that are locally owned and operated so you can come down whenever.
