The Oscar nominations were announced this morning, and they were packed with snubs and surprises. Issa Rae, who announced the nominees with John Cho, put it perfectly when she said, "Congratulations to those men". Whilst few feminine administrators controlled to damage in the course of the noise of Oscars buzz within the run-up to the nomination announcement, various feminine filmmakers have already earned awards consideration this season, together with Gerwig, Lulu Wang, Marielle Heller, Chinonye Chukwu, Kasi Lemmons, and Melina Matsoukas.

Many fans argued that films like "The Farewell" and "Hustlers" deserved more "across the board" and were snubbed in many additional categories.

At the 49th Academy Awards, the Italian screenwriter and director made history by being the first female to be nominated in almost half a century.

"Parasite" became the first Korean film to be nominated for best picture.

Many tweets zero in on the lack of female directors recognized by the Academy-only five women have ever been nominated for Best Director, and only one has nabbed the prize (Kathryn Bigelow for "The Hurt Locker" in 2010). "That's literally what Little Women is about, so [this] only underlines how important it is - because it's happening".

Pompeo Says Iraqi Leaders Privately Want U.S. Troops To Remain
Iraq's parliament voted on January 5, 170-0, to order the government to expel all foreign troops. In the middle of the attack, Chase learned that the missiles had been fired from Iran .

Todd Phillips' much-debated supervillain origin story and R-rated box-office smash "Joker" topped all films with 11 Academy Awards nominations on Monday, including best picture. After nearly two decades without a female directing nominee, the Academy nominated Campion for her work on The Piano. She lost to Guillermo del Toro for "The Shape of Water". Industry website Deadline called this year's nominations "basically #OscarsSoWhite Part 2: #OscarsSoWhiterAndWithMoreMen", referring to a hashtag begun in 2015 in response to the lack of diverse nominees.

Four out of the five directors nominated are white men, save for Joon-ho (whose nomination for directing a foreign language film is certainly a massive accomplishment). Despite recently winning the Golden Globe for best actress in "The Farewell", Awkwafina was not nominated for an Oscar. She was also nominated for 3 NAACP image awards for Entertainer of the Year, Outstanding Actress In A Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing In A Comedy Series.

The Oscars this year take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on February 9, 2020, at 8 p.m. ET.
