The Oscars 2020 nominations list is finally out and while there were several surprises and even more snubs (female directors get no Oscar love!), Parasite emerged as a big victor!

The Oscars nominees were recently announced and "Parasite" received multiple nominations, further cementing itself as one of the best movies of 2019 after multiple acknowledgments ranging from the Cannes Film Festival to the Critic's Choice Awards. This Bong Joon-ho directorial was led by veteran South Korean actor Song Kang-ho and has been winning acclaim and accolades on a global scale.

Korean film Parasite after impressing the audience worldwide and making everyone notice it made it to the Best Picture nomination at The Academy Awards 2020.

"I was so happy to hear that in the morning Parasite was nominated in many categories for the Academy Awards and I hope the film will make good results", said Bae Young-sil, 62, who was with friends to watch another movie.

While there hasn't been any concrete steps taken for a British remake of Parasite, last week, HBO won a fierce bidding war against Netflix for limited edition English-language spin-off series, based on the original film, and co-produced by Bong and The Big Short and Vice director Adam McKay.

It's a message that has resonated in the industry: Pointy claims it has more than 15,000 retail customers worldwide. The agreement is expected to close in the coming weeks, pending the "usual closing conditions".

On top of that, it will compete for the best editing award along with "The Irishman", "Ford v Ferrari", "Jojo Rabbit" and "Joker".

Parasite is a social satire based around class, involving a working class family scamming themselves into a rich family to fund their existence, with deadly consequences.

Since winning the top prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival, "Parasite" has emerged as a serious contender for an Oscar trophy in the United States awards season.

The film has grossed over $24 million in the United States, becoming the most popular subtitled film of the year.

The 92nd Oscars ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on February 9.
