Barcelona lead bitter opponents Real by ₤736 m, a document space in between very first and 2nd in the background of the Deloitte research study.

However, United could slip next year due to a lack of Champions League measures this season.

Manchester United remain top of the Premier League's money league, though the club's position as England's number one side is at risk from rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

It was the first time Wolves have been included in the list, following their promotion to the Premier League, with revenue reported to be £195.5million.

"What is notable is the apparent continuing emergence of 'mini-leagues within the Money League", as the largest revenue-generating clubs continue to pull away from the rest'.

"That will cover this season when Liverpool are having a tremendous season on the pitch, so we think there's a possibility of United losing that number one position".

The 20 most powerful clubs generated a revenue of 9.3 billion euros in the 2018-19 season, according to the 23rd edition of the ranking, 11 per cent more than the previous season, with an increase of 16 per cent in the revenue generated from television rights (a total of 575 million euros), an increase of 9 per cent in commercial revenue (313 million) and 4 per cent more in match day revenue (tickets and passes, 51 million).

The memories I have from this place and organization and playing on the field with these guys...they'll never go away. Longtime teammate safety Tre Boston tweeted that he "always told people I'd teach my son to be like you".

"Part of that will certainly ride on just how the remainder of this period goes, if City or Liverpool go deep right into the Champions League".

Dan Jones, partner in the sports business group at Deloitte, said: 'Barca is a clear example of a club adapting to changing market conditions, reducing the reliance on broadcast revenue and focussing on growing revenues within its control.

The composition of the top 20 overall remains relatively stable with only two new entrants to the Money League - Olympique Lyonnais ranked 17th (up from 28th) and Napoli ranked 20th (up from 21st).

"If you think about where we were 10 years ago, the idea that City would overhaul United in financial terms would have seemed far-fetched".

Barcelona's jump in revenue can be attributed to global overhauled operations further approving a change in strategy related to increasing merchandising and licensing in-house activities.

Deloitte credited Barca's revenue growth to their decision to bring their licensing and merchandising operation in-house, which contributed to the club generating €383.5 million (US$427.0 million) in commercial revenue.
