Hampshire County Council said it was prepared for heavy rain and winds of up to 70mph which prompted the Met Office to issue a weather alert earlier this week warning of potential damage and delays on transport networks across the country.

The weather warnings come just one week after Storm Ciara caused chaos around the city.

Dennis is the second named storm to hit Galway this week, and the fourth of the season so far before we're even out of February.

Storm Dennis is set to batter large parts of Moray.

"We'll get the trails open again as soon as possible".

'Fast-flowing or deep flood water is likely, causing danger to life, ' the Met Office said.

"Keep away from cliffs as cliff falls are more likely in these conditions".

He said he was most concerned about Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria but parts of Wales, south-west England, the Midlands and south-east England could also be at risk.

The Met Office has amber warnings for rain in pockets of northern and south-west England, and Wales from 12:00 GMT on Saturday until 15:00 on Sunday.

The Met Office said we can expect heavy rain and widespread strong winds on both Saturday and Sunday, although it is not expected to be as extreme as Storm Ciara last weekend, it said.
