Coronavirus: Australia limits funerals to 10 people

"Going out for the basics, going out for exercise, perhaps with your partner or family members, provided it's a small group - that's fine, but going outside and going out and participating more broadly in the community, unless you're shopping for basics or there are medical needs or you're providing care or support to another individual in another place, going to work and where you can not work from home [is not fine]".

"Barbecues of lots of friends or even. extended family coming together to celebrate one-year-old birthday parties and all these sorts of things - we can't do those things now", he said.

After that statement, it was confirmed more restrictions would be placed on businesses, including beauty services, outdoor and indoor play areas and youth centres.

Australians have also been banned from travelling overseas even though the number is now very low, however there were people that continue to flout the "do not travel" warning.

Mr Morrison said the Smart Traveller "do not travel advice" was now no longer a warning, but an order.

The measures - which Morrison said each state may manage differently - include a complete ban on all overseas travel. "We will be using all of those devices to get that message out but I think it's pretty clear that most people, if not every person in this country".

The measure was agreed to by the national cabinet of federal and state leaders and covers the public and private systems.

"[It will] allow the preservation of resources, including personal protective equipment, and allow health services to prepare for their role in the COVID-19 outbreak", he said. "Now, this had already largely been implemented for Category 1 and Category 2, and what this means is a further scaling back of those elective surgeries in Category 2".

In the United Kingdom, the government has published a list of key workers deemed essential to the economy who may continue to send their children to school and childcare despite schools being ordered to close.

"Stay at home unless it's absolutely necessary that you go out".

He said it's vital that essential workers be able to send their children to school if they needed to.
