Nessel told CNN the state would be speaking to Ford about allowing the president to go without a mask for the public portion of the tour in what she said was a violation of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's executive order requiring masks in enclosed public spaces.

Trump, a Republican seeking re-election on November 3, has urged states to loosen coronavirus-related restrictions so the battered USA economy can recover even as public health experts warn that premature relaxation of restrictions could lead to a second wave of infections. "It's a highly transmissible virus". It wasn't clear if that last bit was meant for Ford's great-grandson and the company's current executive chairman William Clay Ford, who was present, or maybe just employees of the factory, like, by association. "But they said that it's not necessary", added Trump.

"Thanks to you, we'll stockpile over 100,000 new ventilators in the next few months", he said.

Throughout the coronavirus crisis Donald Trump has been completely consistent in one regard - he will not wear a mask in public. A Trump administration official had said there had been concerns about the propriety of the government interfering with the operation of places of worship.

While Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has strongly advised everyone in the USA to make use of face masks to prevent falling victim to Covid-19, Trump and his supporters have claimed that since the United States president and his close circle of high-ranking officials are routinely tested, wearing a mask at all times is not necessary.

Touring a Ford auto factory in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where workers have converted to building respirators and other medical equipment for fighting COVID-19, Trump held up a mask and declared he'd covered his face earlier. "However, upon arriving here on the first day, I felt safe due to the new policies and procedures put forth by our UAW health and safety team", Brabant said. "I wore one in this back area, but I didn't want to give the press the pleasure of seeing it", Trump told reporters, showing off the mask he said he'd worn.

"I made the case that, you know, we all have to be on the same page here".

Trump has planted himself at the center of each of those issues as he encourages states to lift restrictions that have closed businesses, forced residents to remain at home and frozen a national economy that once anchored his reelection argument.

A mask-less Trump was even photographed interacting with Ford officials, all of who had face masks on.
