Sunil Gavaskar woke up to a troubled Friday after netizens started calling him sexist for allegedly making sweeping comments on Anushka Sharma while commenting about Virat Kohli's poor performance during RCB and KXIP match.

It all happened during the Kings XI innings when Kohli dropped centurion KL Rahul in the deep off Dale Steyn bowling, Gavaskar apparently said: "Inhone lockdown to bas Anuskha ki gendon in practice ki haia".

The controversial statement of Sunil Gavaskar was in reference to the video of Virat and Anushka playing cricket on their terrace during the lockdown, which had surfaced on the internet and had gone viral. Rahul was on 83 and 89.

Reacting to what she termed a "distasteful message" by Gavaskar, Sharma sought an explanation from the former India captain. Click the link to subscribe.

It is evident that Gavaskar was referring to this video to make a point that Kohli has not played real cricket during the lockdown, something even the Indian captain had alluded to.

"Firstly, I would like to say, where am I blaming her, I'm not blaming her".

Not only did Virat fail as a batsman, but he was also fined for slow over-rate.

Earlier, while on commentary duties at the ongoing IPL 2020 in Dubai, opining on Kohli's poor form during the match, the former Indian opener made a snide remark involving Anushka that many thought was in poor taste. "If somebody, has interpreted it, what can I do?" However, the comment did not go down well with Kohli and Anushka's fans and some even demanded his sacking from Star Sports commentary panel, lashing out at him on social media.

Sharma added, "It's 2020 and things still don't change for me".

Anushka Sharma reacted on Instagram to Sunil Gavaskar's comment during RCB vs KXIP in the IPL.

"Lockdown tha to sirf Anushka ki bowling ki practice ki unhone, wo video dekhi hai, us sey to kuch nahi hona hai" which roughly translates to - "During the lockdown he practised only Anushka's bowling, I had seen in a video".

"As you hear from the commentary, Aakash [Chopra] and I were doing commentary for an Hindi channel". "Anushka remained quiet when I was threatened and called Haramkhor but today the same misogyny coming to bite her, I condemn the fact that she was dragged into cricket by Sunil Gavaskar but selective feminism is equally uncool", Kangana wrote on the micro-blogging site. Respected Mr. Gavaskar, you are a legend whose names stand tall in this gentleman's game.
