But it seems the new MagSafe Charger isn't as efficient for older iPhone models as it is for the new iPhone 12 Series.

Apple launched its new iPhones today but the new MagSafe Charger is the must-have accessory for new buyers. The iPhone 11 for example only accepts 7.5W, so you would expect the MagSafe Charger to be able to meet that.

The magnets needed for a successful MagSafe connection are missing in the old iPhones, because they were never included.

These cases, which are said to accompany iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro users, will not be released until November 6, 2020.

At the time of testing, the only two phones that we found to lock onto the MagSafe charger were the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Google Pixel 5 (above), the latter of which is the only phone with an aluminium body and to feature wireless charging. According to YouTuber Max Yuryev who put this to the test on his Max Tech channel, iPhone 11 and older models performed a lot worse on the new MagSafe Charger.

First of all, Apple's new $39 magnetic charger seems to work best with the iPhone 12 lineup, while anything older than that is thrown down to super slow charging speeds, nearly at an unusable level. If you are a fan of "naked" smartphones, maybe you would prefer to avoid MagSafe altogether.

Models of earphones with a wirelessly charged case can be charged using the Qi wireless charging standard, which MagSafe delivers on.

Apple says users should not place credit cards, security badges, passports, or key fobs between the iPhone and MagSafe Charger, because this might damage magnetic strips or RFID chips in those items.
