Earlier the California-based company had said that it will keep its work from home policy till June 1, 2020 and reopen afterwards.

Google chief executive officer Sundar Pichai has reportedly told his employees that they might have to work from home for the remainder of 2020.

The Chairman of early stage startup accelerator and venture fund, Axilor Ventures, also said that numerous smaller Indian startups have found that they are as effective working out of home and are now wondering whether they require permanent office space at all.

As for Facebook, the social media giant has also admitted that the chances of many of their employees getting back into their normal working environment before the turn of the year is unlikely. "Take the time to do whatever you need to do to prioritise your well-being", Pichai wrote in the memo. Naficy notes: "Facebook is showing true leadership by letting their staff work from home".

Facebook Inc said on Friday it would allow its workers who are able to work remotely to do so until the end of the year as the coronavirus pandemic forces governments to extend stay-at-home orders to curb the spread of the disease, Reuters reported.

Speaking of Google first, according to a report by 9to5Google, Google and its parent company Alphabet have told their employees this during an all-hands meeting. In a statement to the publisher, Microsoft said, "On May 4th we confirmed that when restrictions lift, working from home will remain optional through October unless employees are in an essential role of local authorities mandate otherwise". While doing so, the company said that it is planning for how and when it can bring certain employees back to their offices.

Companies could ask employees to stay at home and work for longer as they redesign their office spaces to cater to new social distancing guidelines.
