Kell Brook stopped in four rounds by Terence Crawford

Brook was allowed to continue, but referee Tony Weeks soon stopped the fight after Crawford pounced on the stunned former world champion with a barrage of left and right shots.

A right hook from Crawford sent Brook spiralling into the ropes, before the champion closed the show clinically and quickly by landing a flurry of punches.

The 33-year-old was fighting for the first time in 11 months. All three of his losses have come via knockout. According to Top Rank president Bob Arum, a deal with Pacquiao was almost struck earlier this year, before the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted plans.

"Errol Spence will try to avoid Terence Crawford as long as he can because he knows he can't beat Terence Crawford", Arum said. He decided while wearing the welterweight belt in 2016 to move up two weight classes to meet Gennadiy Golovkin at the height of his 23-fight knockout streak, then had to cut all that weight back after suffering a fractured orbital bone to fight the uber-talented Spence. "Terence ranks up there with all the great welterweights I've promoted".

However, as the fight wore on, Crawford switched to the southpaw stance and picked Brook apart.

Crawford sealed the deal in a matter of seconds, as he stopped Kell Brook in the fourth round to defend his welterweight gold.

Brook has suffered in recent years with injury after moving up to middleweight but returned to the welterweight division with what many believed was his career on the line.

Brook, of Sheffield, England, looked comfortable on the scale.

Crawford, of Omaha, Nebraska, will direct his attention to bigger fights in 2021. Spence will defend his titles against Danny Garcia in Texas on December 5.
