Mercedes-Maybach S580 unveiled, and it redefines luxury

Look to the side and it is evident that the vehicle is longer than the S-Class, there is chrome window trim, a triangular rear quarter window, and even an illuminated Maybach logo is there on the rear pillar. The vehicle comes with rear axle steering as standard.

The 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has been officially revealed, with the first Australian deliveries slated to arrive in the fourth quarter of next year. This figure is 180mm more than what the Long-Wheelbase (LWB) S-Class offers (3,216mm).

The German manufacturer revived the Maybach nameplate in 2015 for its most luxurious models, and following on from the recent unveiling of the standard S-Class, the new Maybach model has now been revealed.

The Mercedes Maybach S-Class 2021 doesn't just offer an ultra expensive drive experience from within but looks the part of being a palace on wheels as well.

Like in a Rolls-Royce, the extended rear doors can be operated electrically, while the individually adjustable rear bucket seats feature backrests that can adjust between 19 and 44 degrees and there is a deployable leg rest on the passenger side. The aim is to ensure optimum NVH, and to that end, the Maybach S-Class gets plenty of insulation throughout its body, along with thicker laminated glass, and noise-reduced tyres with foam absorbers.

In addition, the Maybach S-Class gets an active ambient lighting system, which consists of 253 LEDs, a head-up display with augmented reality, along with an optional Interior Assist function, which uses cameras to track movements of the passengers and triggers certain functions.

On the safety front, a fully-equipped Maybach S-Class will have 18 airbags in total, along with a bunch of other safety systems. The motor develops 496 bhp and 700 Nm of peak torque, which is put right down to the rear wheels utilizing the 9-speed automated transmission.

Beneath the daily-buffed bodywor, over an extended wheelbase extended by seven inches, sits the same running gear as the top-spec S-Class, mating a four-liter biturbo V-8 to a 48-volt hybrid system with EQ Boost. Meanwhile, the new-generation S-Class can be slated to reach subsequent 12 months within the nation with costs anticipated to begin from ₹ 1.5 crore (all costs, ex-showroom) onwards. It's unclear which powertrain is making its way to India, when the Maybach S-Class is launched here in the first half of 2021.
