Due out "next spring", or early Q2 2021 in normal speak as a 2022 model, the orange example here is the upcoming iteration of the popular Honda C-segmenter, which the company boasts as having been the best selling auto in North America. The sedan will make its transition to the 11th-gen after a run of 48 years in the global markets. In fact, the overall profile also looks rather similar between the two models, with reference to the Civic's sloping roofline.

While some automakers have exited the segment in favor of SUVs, Honda will introduce an all-new Civic next spring that it previewed with a concept revealed Tuesday on Twitch. Honda hasn't indicated what the new Civic will be powered by but we'd expect the 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder will carry on. The 11th-gen Civic looks much more dynamic and sportier than its predecessor as it boasts a lower height, lower hip point, lower hood and front fenders, and lower horizontal beltline that grounds the body that highlights the wheels and tires of the sedan. Honda may change some features and design in production units. Honda has yet to confirm if the new model will be offered in the United Kingdom and Europe. The goal, Honda says, was to maintain the Civic's focus on great ergonomics and visibility.

The Civic, with its affordable price tag, good fuel economy and excellent safety ratings, has been the best-selling passenger vehicle in America for the past four years, excluding corporate fleet sales, and it's on track to be the best seller again this year, according to Kelley Blue Book. The prototype we see here is a sedan in a Solar Flare Pearl finish, and it will be joined later on by a hatchback body style, as suggested by patent images previously.

A new Honda Civic Type R variant will come to the United Kingdom, and we expect a warm Civic Si to sit underneath it.

That said, I do like the subtle integrated boot spoiler. A freestanding 9.0-inch touchscreen taking pride of place on what is an otherwise minimalistic dashboard.

Behind the wheel will be an all-digital instrument cluster, a first for a Civic.

A Honda spokesperson told CarAdvice: "For Australia, the Civic nameplate will continue as a core model in Honda's line-up with the next generation, however, the sedan bodystyle will be phased out locally when the current model reaches the end of its lifecycle towards the middle of next year". According to Honda, the new Civic comes loaded with various active and passive safety systems including an upgraded Honda Sensing Suite.

Come late spring 2021 (May), the Civic sedan will get launched in the U.S., followed by the hatchback, performance-focused Civic Si, and finally the high-performance Type R.
