'We don't even need to say how absurd, unsafe and just plain stupid this was, ' added MTA spokesman Tim Minton.

The incident was captured by a bystander on video earlier in November but gained national attention on Tuesday when someone from the police union put it out on social media, in order to make a point about how unsafe NY has gotten.

It appears that it's part of a tribute to legendary rappers Wu-Tang Clan.

Police say the incident has gone viral.

The man, who has since been identified as rapper Dupree G.O.D - real name Christopher Dupree - made headlines on Tuesday after footage of his risky stunt was widely shared on social media.

The rapper also shared additional footage of his entourage playing with the flamethrower.

WWLP reported that in June, officers seized a flamethrower and arrested a man in MA.
