Santa Barbara County Assigned to Purple Widespread COVID-19 Tier

Counties will move backward in the tier system following one week of meeting the metrics of a more restrictive tier rather than two consecutive weeks of meeting those metrics, which include the daily new case rate and test positivity rates.

As of Monday, San Francisco and San Mateo counties are sliding back to the "Red" tier - with San Francisco sliding two tiers from the least restrictive "Yellow" tier, where the city has been for over a month.

California is also strengthening its face-covering guidance to require individuals to wear a mask whenever they are outside their home, with limited exceptions.

State officials are also debating placing a curfew.

California officials are urging those who travel out of the state to self-quarantine for 14 days upon return.

Nationally the U.S. has reported more than 11million COVID-19 cases and more than 246,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
