Trump tries to overturn result as Biden nears record 80 million votes

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said on Thursday that a hand audit of ballots in the state was complete and had confirmed Joe Biden as the victor of the November 3 election in the state.

In Georgia, where officials have been auditing the results of the presidential race, Trump has repeatedly attacked the process and called it "a joke".

MI and Georgia are two of the five states - along with Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Arizona - that Trump captured in his upset win over Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016 but that Biden reclaimed for the Democratic ticket.

Most counties saw only minor changes in their tallies, with the recount vote totals differing by single digits, said a New York Times report. "I have been troubled, like every American, whether you're a Republican or a Democrat or independent should be troubled, when you start having attempts to block, negate, overturn the people's vote when there's no actual evidence that there was anything illegal or fraudulent taking place". "They confirmed that they have not briefed anyone on President-elect Biden's team and have no plans to do so".

Former President Barack Obama told MSNBC in an interview Thursday that it has been troubling to watch Republicans defend President Donald Trump's baseless voter fraud claims. His victory reversed Trump's 2016 gains in the industrial Midwest and put the Democrat on the path to achieving the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the White House. The deadlock brought claims of racism from Democrats before the board later voted unanimously to certify the results.

The secretary of state's office planned to release results of the audit Thursday.

Mr Biden won the county by a huge margin, according to unofficial results, and won MI by about 146,000 votes.

"We use paper ballots counted by hand in front of scrutineers and have never used voting machines or electronic tabulators to count votes in our 100-year history".

Earlier in the day, Giuliani alleged that in the city of Atlanta Republicans were not allowed to inspect the absentee mail-in ballot processing.

The disputes at the commission had echoes of what happened in MI on Tuesday.

In Pennsylvania, where the Trump campaign is challenging the election results in federal court, a legal team led by Giuliani suggested in a filing Wednesday that the judge order the Republican-led state legislature to pick delegates to the Electoral College, potentially throwing the state's 20 electoral votes to Trump. Several of them have already been shot down and the rest has so far failed to make any headway.

Among the Democrats on the videoconference was Gretchen Whitmer of MI, which is among the states Trump has targeted for unfounded claims of voter fraud.

The state's Republican U.S. senators, David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, who both face runoff elections in January, have joined with Trump in accusing Raffensperger, without evidence, of overseeing a flawed election, an allegation Raffensperger has disputed.

It was not immediately clear what the meeting would be about.

Typically, a state certifies a slate of electors based on which candidate won the popular vote, as Biden did in MI and Pennsylvania.

The top Michigan lawmaker, Mike Shirkey, previously told Bridge Michigan daily that Joe Biden won the state and that an elector coup was "not going to happen".

President Trump has continued to fire off tweets in support of his legal challenges and has held only two public events since the election, a Veterans Day memorial and an update on coronavirus vaccines. "This pattern repeats itself in a number of states, nearly exactly the same pattern, which to any experienced investigator [or] prosecutor would suggest there was a plan from a centralized place to execute these various acts of voter fraud specifically focused on big cities".
