David Heyman, whose credits includes the ' Harry Potter' franchise and "Paddington", is backing the movie. WB has handed the film a USA release of March 17th, 2023.

Heyman is said to be working with comedy script-writer, Simon Rich - of Saturday Night Live fame - on the movie. And though Tim Burton's film touched on Wonka's childhood, this may look more at his attempts to get his factory going.

He encounters a group of unpleasant, conceited children and their equally unpleasant parents, and eventually inherits the factory - leading onto the book's sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.

Casting details are not now known, but Wonka was famously portrayed by Gene Wilder in the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and infamously portrayed by Johnny Depp in the 2005 Tim Burton adaptation.

Warner Bros.is reopening the chocolate factory. Johnny Depp brought the character to life again in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which hit the cinemas in 2005.

In it, we saw flashbacks of when Wonka was younger, including scenes with his Dentist father as well as scenes of him trekking through the rain forest in search of coco beans.

Thor director Taika Waititi is also planning two animated series for Netflix, one around Charlie, and another around the Oompa-Loompas.

King has been associated with the project for almost two years now as he was reported to have been at the last stages of negotiations to helm Wonka back in 2018.

Now, Warner Bros. has set the release of the Wonka requel for 2023.

We can say, we're interested in what direction it takes.
