Wuhan scientists 'had virus symptoms before first confirmed cases'

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the first cases of the disease were originally reported from Wuhan City in China on 31 December 2019. "The WIV has engaged in classified research, including laboratory animal experiments, on behalf of the Chinese military since at least 2017", the Department stated. "The CCP's deadly obsession with secrecy and control comes at the expense of public health in China and around the world", says the State Department. However, the new information from the State Department adds evidence that the virus may have accidentally leaked from the WIV, a hypothesis that has been dismissed by China, the corporate media, and health officials as a "conspiracy theory".

The United States State Department has released a fact sheet on the activity at the Wuhan Institue of Virology in China, the city where the outbreak was first reported late past year.

The U.S. didn't say how it obtained the new information about illnesses at the lab.

The U.S. document also pointed out that the Wuhan lab had become a focal point for worldwide coronavirus research after the 2003 SARS outbreak and has since studied animals including mice, bats, and pangolins.

A wet market in Wuhan, the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, is said to be the origin of the virus as claimed by China, The Blaze reported.

Samsung's Lee Jae-yong returned to jail
Experts say the sentence could create a leadership vacuum and hamper Samsung's decision-making on future large-scale investments. After serving one year, Lee was released from prison in 2018 when an appeals court halved and suspended the jail term.

Against the backdrop of the World Health Organization, the outgoing US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reiterated accusations aimed at China, urging the World Health Organization to pressure it to pursue greater transparency. "This fully demonstrates that some USA politicians are keen on violating science, hyping up conspiracy theories, spreading political viruses for their personal gains, while paying no attention to public security and people's lives".

This accusation from the U.S. has come at a time when a team of researchers from the World Health Organization (WHO) have gone to China's Wuhan city - the original epicentre - to investigate the origin of this deadly virus, which was earlier believed to have spread from a wet market in Wuhan.

"This is also the final madness staged by Pompeo, this Mr. Liar", she said. Earlier this month, Foreign Minister Wang Yi claimed "more and more research suggests that the pandemic was likely to have been caused by separate outbreaks in multiple places in the world".

The US Department of State has already published a stinging statement accusing the Chinese Communist Party of 'deceit and disinformation'. State media have played up research suggesting that there were cases in Italy and the USA that pre-date those in Wuhan, and hinted that the pathogen could have entered the country via frozen food or packaging.

The Wuhan site was reportedly carrying out "gain of function" research, which artificially speeds up the evolution of viruses, with viruses sampled from bats in the caves where COVID-19 is suspected to have originated.
