"A Chinese delegation of around four people led by the ambassador was lodging in the hotel".

Prime Minister Imran Khan has strongly condemned the Quetta blast.

'An explosion has rocked the parking area of the Serena Hotel, ' police official Nasir Malik told Reuters, saying 11 people had been wounded. Police said rescuers transported victims to nearby hospitals.

Footage from the site showed cars ablaze and flames and plumes of smoke rising into the sky.

He added that despite the security measures, the vehicle carrying explosives managed to enter the parking lot from the main gate of the hotel, which is a matter of big concern and the people responsible will be taken to task for a security lapse.

According to the Dawn newspaper, the explosion took place in a parking space of the Serena Hotel in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, at around 10.30 p.m. (17:30 GMT).

Horgan added that the province has been working with the tourism industry to eliminate bookings from out-of-town travellers. Let's do our part, to use our layers, to stay local and err on the side of caution, so we can put COVID-19 behind us.

Experts believe the Serena Hotel attack highlights the ongoing threat to Chinese interests in Balochistan. They have for decades staged attacks to press their demands for independence.

In recent months the group, and other militant organisations, have stepped up attacks in tribal areas near the border with Afghanistan.

Pakistan's Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed quickly blamed neighbouring India for the hotel bombing, although he provided no evidence to back up the allegation. Chinese citizens have come under attack many times in Balochistan, mainly at the hands of Baloch separatists.

Liaquat Shahwani, a provincial government spokesman. called the bombing an act of terrorism without elaborating.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed says anti-Pakistan elements want to destroy the country's peace. "The auto was parked in the parking lot of the Serena Hotel", said Balochistan provincial Home Minister Ziaullah Lango, according to Reuters.

Injured include two assistant commissioners of the Balochistan government, who were present in the hotel when the blast occurred, were immediately shifted to the Civil Hospital Quetta along with other wounded people.
