Giuliani’s Manhattan Apartment Searched by Federal Bureau of Investigation in U.S. Probe

Federal investigators have executed search warrants at Giuliani's Manhattan residence and office.

His work included an investigation before the 2020 election into now-President Joe Biden and his son Hunter's dealings in Ukraine.

In the weeks before the November election, the contents of Hunter Biden's laptops were leaked to the media.

"In addition to this stark admission, you stated more recently that you are in possession of evidence - in the form of text messages, phone records, and other communications - indicating that you were not acting alone and that other Trump Administration officials may have been involved in this scheme", a letter from the committee chairs to Giuliani said.

Mr Cohen admitted to lying during congressional testimony about the timing of discussions around an abandoned plan to build a Trump Tower in Russian Federation.

The New York Times and the Associated Press reported on the raid, citing law enforcement officials.

No charges had been filed against the 76-year-old former federal prosecutor as of Wednesday afternoon.

Guiliani, who was ex-President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, didn't immediately comment, nor did the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of NY in Manhattan.

Federal prosecutors and agents had been pushing since a year ago to obtain a search warrant for Giuliani's records and electronics but ran into resistance from Trump-appointed officials in the Justice Department, who were concerned about the scope of the warrant and the dangers of obtaining information protected by attorney-client privilege, law enforcement officials have told The Times. The US Attorney's office in Manhattan and the FBI's NY office declined to comment Wednesday.

Sources tell ABC News that Giuliani's electronic devices, including his cellphone, were confiscated by authorities.

A lawyer for Mr Giuliani denounced the raids as "legal thuggery".

Guidelines require approval of Justice Department officials in Washington, D.C., for federal prosecutors in individual states to pursue such action against an attorney such as Giuliani.

Under Mr Trump, political appointees in the Justice Department repeatedly sought to block such a warrant, the paper claimed. A Justice Department spokesman in NY did not return emails seeking comment.

Giuliani's involvement took place before, during and then after the core events of the Ukraine affair in 2019 in which Trump ordered assistance be frozen to extract concessions from Ukraine's government. Prosecutors tried to use such a team to review information obtained during a 2018 raid of the office of Michael Cohen, a longtime attorney and fixer for Trump.

The two businessmen, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, were arrested and indicted in October 2019 as part of what the government said was a "foreign national donor scheme" that allegedly sought to funnel foreign money to American political candidates.
