Gunman kills eight, takes own life at FedEx site in Indianapolis

Jeremiah Miller had finished a shift at the FedEx facility and was preparing to work a second consecutive shift when he and a coworker, Timothy Boillat, heard gunfire, up to 10 shots.

"We're hoping for the best", she said.

It is unclear how many people have been shot at this time or their conditions, but multiple victims have been transported to various hospitals in the area, Cook said.

At the end of March, a gunman killed four people, including a 9-year-old boy, at a real estate office in Southern California.

FedEx said in a statement early Friday that it was cooperating with authorities and working to get more information.

A witness who said he works at the facility told USA media he saw a man with a gun after hearing several gunshots.

The gunman, said to have been acting alone, is reported to have killed himself.

Family members gathered at a local hotel to await word on loved ones.

Local media cited a company spokesman as saying that FedEx is now considering reevaluating a policy that prohibits employees from having their phones with them during shifts, making it hard to contact them.

"We have located eight people with gunshot wounds who were pronounced deceased at the scene".

Another man told WTTV that his niece was sitting in the driver's seat of her auto when the gunfire erupted, and she was wounded.

Singh said she called him and told him there had been shots fired in the FedEx building.

"Today it is very heartbreaking and, you know, in the Annapolis Metro Police Department, the officers responded, they came in, they went in and they did their job", Officer Genae Cook said.
