Their daughter's name references both her grandmother, the late Princess Diana, and her great grandmother, the Queen, so surely Liz can't be too peeved at them now? "She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe", Harry and Meghan said in a statement.

Lilibet is the Royal Family's nickname for Queen Elizabeth II, the baby's great-grandmother, the couple said.

Lilibet was born at 11:40am local time 19:40 BST, weighed 7 lbs 11 oz and is now "settling in at home".

"On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili", they say.

Members of the royal family extended their congratulations to Harry and Meghan.

Diana, the former wife of Prince Charles and mother to Harry and his elder brother William, died in a Paris auto crash in 1997. According to a report in US Weekly, a source told the news portal that Prince William and Duchess Kate were "informed about the birth and have sent Lilibet a gift".

Harry, Meghan and their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu during their royal tour of South Africa on September 25, 2019, in Cape Town.

They stepped back from their roles as senior working royals a year ago, relinquishing their HRH titles, and now live in Santa Barbara, California.

In a tweet , the department's director, Alfredo "Freddy" Ramirez III, condemned the "cowardly act of gun violence". At least two people have died and more than 20 were wounded in a shooting outside a concert hall in Florida .

Meghan, a California native, gave birth to Archie in a London hospital near the Sussexes' home in Windsor, England, where they lived at the time. She is eighth in line to the throne behind her grandfather Charles, uncle William, his three children (George, Charlotte and Louis), her father Harry, and big brother Archie.

The little girl was born just days before what would have been Prince Philip's 100th birthday.

They have been receiving backlash for their explosive interview with US TV host Oprah Winfrey in March this year.

They will only become princess and prince once Prince Charles takes the throne.

The pregnancy announcement came less than three months after Meghan opened up in a New York Times op-ed about a pregnancy loss the couple suffered last summer.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child", a spokesperson told PEOPLE, adding that the couple are "overjoyed" to be parents again.

One local schoolchild asked the duchess if she'd name the baby Amy if it were a girl, to which she replied, "That's a really pretty name, I like it". We've got you covered below! "We've got, you know, the four of us and our two dogs".
